Instead of taking medications like Tynelon or Advil will not give you permanent pain relief. However, taking medication can be harmful for you and your baby. What Are The Common Causes of Hip Pain?

Arthritis - Osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis are one of the most common causes of hip pain. Arthritis is a condition that negatively affects joints, causing inflammation and stiffness. People with arthritis can have a reduced range of motion because there is a breakdown of the cartilage that cushions the hip bones.

Bursitis - Bursitis is the inflammation of the bursa. Bursa are fluid-filled sacs found around the body to serve as a cushion between bones and soft tissues. The inflammation of the bursa can cause pain and discomfort in the hips.

Hip Fractures - A hip fracture is a break in the femur. As people age, their bones become weaker and fragile. Weak bones are more likely to break when a person falls.

Tendonitis - Tendonitis is an inflammation or irritation of a tendon. The irritation is caused by repetitive stress and overuse of the area.

Muscle or tendon strain - Overuse injuries develop when there is repetitive stress to a specific area. The repeated stress can damage the muscles and cause inflammation.

How Can Physical Therapy Help With Hip Pain?

The goal of physical therapy is to recover from injury and improve mobility. There are various types of physical therapy treatments, depending on the injury. Physical therapists teach patients exercises and stretching techniques that will help them recover. Through persistent training sessions, the body will adjust, and progress will be made! Overall, your physical therapy treatment will focus on eliminating pain, improving your hip range of motion, and restore hip mobility.

What Are The Types of Treatments for Hip Pain?

• Ice
• Heat
• Electrical stimulation
• Taping
• Exercise
• Manual therapy (joint mobilization and soft- tissue mobilization)

What to Expect From Physical Therapy for Hip Pain

When starting physical therapy for hip pain, the specialist will begin by evaluating the hip. During this visit, the specialist will ask many questions regarding your medical history, daily activities, and any relevant factors that may be causing your pain. After gathering the information, the specialist may conduct a physical examination to understand further and identify the problem. The specialist needs to collect this information to develop an optimal treatment plan that is specialized for your condition.

What Are Some Hip Pain Exercises?

Swimming - Swimming is a non-impact exercise that can help increase your range of motion. The water resistance can reduce pain and improve joint mobility.
Knee Lifts - Lay on the back and extend both legs flat on the floor. Keep the left leg straight, and pull the right knee towards your chest. Hold the top of the knee to help hold your leg in place. You can hold the stretch for 10 seconds, then switch to the other knee.
Hip Rotation - First, sit on the floor with both legs extended out in front. Bend the legs at the knees to press the soles of the feet together. Next, place a hand on top of each knee and gently push them down towards the floor. Apply light pressure to stretch the joints and hold the position for a few seconds.
Hip Extension - First, stand upright with your legs straight. Extend both arms out in front and hold on to a chair for support. Lift each leg backward without bending the knee.
